US Consulate in Hong Kong already told you what to prepare and the mainstream process. I am going to talk about something that is not mentioned on the website. This is just personal observation and experience, take is with a grain of salt. Also, the process is subject to change. I disclaim any liability and please let notify me if I violate any rules.
1. NIV appointment time. Most of the time, you can arrive earlier than the scheduled time although the confirmation letter declare the opposite. The guards at the gate will only check the appointment date.
2. Now, they break the process into two. The first one is to supply all the documents at the counters outside the building.; then you will have to wait for the interview and 10-pin at a different counter inside the building.
3. For those who apply for H1B, it is better that you prepare W-2 or payroll statement to verify that the company you work for actually pay you.
In general, it is a very smooth process; should take around 1 hour. So plan your time accordingly. Hopefully, this is useful and can sooth the anxiety of first time applicants.
